February 5th

Nancy and Kirk did the Park’s birding trail this morning, what with the Sutherland Wash actually having water flowing in it, required 4 separate river crossings.  The big sighting this morning was the Antelope Jack Rabbit, second only in size apparently, to the Bog Rabbit of legend.

Next up, we made hopefully our last Camping World expedition, to get a long handled brush for Bigfoot scrubbing, and some other miscellanei.

Up to now, we’ve been thrilled with the Rogers Roam like Home plan, where for $5/day to a maximum of 10 days, you have your normal rogers plan in the US.  No outrageous cell bills, long distance, nor data roaming fees; however, today we discovered the catch (and there always is one, it seems).  We tried to call a bevy of free phone numbers to our bank and insurance, only to find that they did not work.  Extending our US health insurance took an agonizing two hours.  A call to Rogers was met with a brief, "Oh yeah, there’s a few numbers won’t work, 1-800, 1-866, etc.etc” Exactly the emergency numbers we have for our medical insurance, banking, etc.  No mention of that in the Rogers advertising….

Nancy set up a pair of bird feeders yesterday.  Hummingbird was there by nightfall, but it was too dark to ID.  Today it was determined to be an Anna’s Hummingbird.  The bird bag today included the hummingbird and Abert’s Towhee.  Oh-Oh!  At 3:22 this afternoon, we found Arizona to be hot, somewhere above 27 and below 31.  Even the intrepid Nancy and partner Kirk are flopped in the shade.

I would expect camping world to be an expensive place now that the dollar has dropped! We finish most of our Cuba shopping today in Wpg. Who would have thought that the best place to buy Dremel bits for Amelia's nail business would be at Lee Valley. The diamond chain saw sharpening bits are also used to grind finger nails in Cuba! We picked up six of them for her.
Nice cactus pics Nancy, good to hear you have hit some hot weather.

Looked up bog rabbit and can't find a reference. So what is it?

The Bog Rabbit is a legendary (perhaps) creature of St. Andrew's Bog, seen only by the deserving. Have a great time in Cuba, and say hey to Harold & Amelia.

What, no Jackalope sightings yet? -31 here before the windchill yesterday. Enjoy that warmth! If you've got feeders set up, ma ought to try to get some photos!
