November 12 - Studying Languages

Kirk and I went for our morning walk and ran into a couple of ladies raring to go on a longer walk through the back roads so I changed into runners and off we went.  We stopped for coffee and fresh squeezed orange juice in town.

We returned to the park just in time to meet the Bolitos (buns) truck where I bought banana muffins, croissants, and vanilla buns.  Good thing we'd walked.  Then we had to freshen up and get ready to spend a couple of hours with some students who were learning English.

Our Spanish teacher from last year, Ivan (pronounced ee van) had asked us to help the students to practice English by talking with them.  Cam and I spent time with Lizbeth and Julio.  Lizbeth wants to be in medicine or engineering.  Julio is still in junior high and hasn't decided.

Our Spanish teacher Ivan joined us for a bit

Ivan would like the students to spend time with a few of us from the park to help with their English and it will also help our Spanish.  They wanted to know about Canada.  We learned about Mexico and  where their parents buy shrimp in town.  We exchanged phone numbers and Ivan encouraged us to call the students if we had a question about where to buy something as it is good for them to practice on the phone where you don't have the visual cues to help.

Last night a gecko ran across the living room rug and I chased him out the door.  Just now another little gecko did the same thing and I discovered a small notch along the door.  That needs to be plugged!  I don't mind the geckos.  Other uninvited creepers may be an issue though.
