October 20 - Burleston Tx

After a 43 minute delay getting through Ft Worth Tx due to a combination of construction and police clearing up an accident we finally made it to Jellystone Rustic Ranch.

Cam - you know those pictures of Texas freeways, with 5 or 6 different levels of flyways flowing massive amounts of traffic in every which direction?  Now picture the chaos when it's construction time, and everything is on the ground, with traffic repeatedly merging into a single lane, and huge rush hour traffic flows trying to move through the maze.  That was Fort Worth.  Drivers were becoming hugely frustrated with the delays, like the guy in the 1/2 ton, who, once the traffic finally got moving, floored it, and darted out to pass, directly into the end of the line of concrete lane dividers.  They had 6 feet of impact plastic on the end, but he still shortened up the drivers side headlight area of his Dodge about 3 - 4 feet; ricocheted off of a 1/2 ton pulling an empty stock trailer beside him, and spun fluid and debris several hundred feet down the highway.  Miraculously, he was still standing, holding his head, and examining his truck when we crawled past.  We traversed the construction unscathed, largely due to helpful and timely comments from Nancy, offering advice and suggestions on my driving skills.

We had not yet completed the hurdles of the day because, as we rounded the bend to our campsite within Jellystone, workers had dropped a 25 ft pine across our path.  With nowhere to go we accepted our fate of having to wait while the park gathered enough staff and power saws to clear the way.  Cam mixed a drink, I practiced my EspaƱol with some of the park staff, and management went looking for another site for us.

"I think I could make the leap"

The park is having a live Zombie hunt this weekend.  You ride in this wagon and shoot.  I think we know a lot of people who would like one of these!  I guess young hires are the unfortunates on the receiving end of this.
