February 12

Just another boring day in the desert; low of 59F, high of 70F.  We had a slow morning. Kirk and Nancy couldn’t have walked more than a mile or two.  We ran around town doing miscellaneous details, including photocopying documents in preparation for obtaining our FMT’s in Mexico.

We went to the Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge centre and checked out their interpretive centre trails.  I now know what Palo Verde trees look like.  They also had a pool with very rare fish, a desert pupfish.  Talk about a tough place to be a fish.  It also protects the endangered Sonoran Antelope.  This antelope formerly travelled long distance to use scarce resources in different times of the year, which is now blocked because of development.

Afternoon, we laid around the pool, applying cool pool, hot tub, and warm sun in rotation as necessary.  Some rum was harmed.  The wind was forecast to be 50 mph this afternoon, but it wasn’t noticeable down around the pool, and with evening, it’s pretty much calmed off.
