New visitors - Altamira Oriole and Whimbrel

Things have quietened down as most of the holidaying families have left.  Just us snowbirds now.

We had a few cool nights and the waves were creating fog on the beach in early morning.

We had an Altamira Oriole here today.  This is a tropical species.  Brightly coloured with white highlights in the wings and a distinctive orange patch at the shoulder. The orange shoulder patch separates it from the very similar Streak-backed Oriole.

Note the orange shoulder patch.

The Streak-backed Oriole was not around but the Hooded was here.

The elusive Yellow-breasted Chat also decided to be not so elusive today.  The chat is a large warbler.  Every day I try to get this guys photo at 7:30 a.m. when he makes his rounds but usually he is flitty and shy.

Kirk has been having his issues.  First it's the rag of shame to prevent further chest licking.

Then that dang cat takes his bed!

Now this!
