So there has been some discussion on which way to drive to Tepic from here. We can take the usual grind up Tepic hill - a steep and windy way. We can drive along the ocean to San Blas and then up the new cuota to Tepic. Or we can take the long way around by Compostela on the bigger highways. Today we did a road trip in our CRV to scope out the San Blas way. It is a beautiful drive through agricultural areas and then onto the more mountainous winding, narrow, and often overgrown road to San Blas. There are portions where you would have to drive with your dual wheels well over the yellow line in order to avoid sturdy branches and vines extending into the roadway. This is okay if you are on a straight piece of the highway and can see oncoming traffic however there are blind curves to which this would apply. Also we noted that oncoming traffic also veers into our lane for these same reasons especially large vehicles. Our friends RV is even higher than ours.
We did see some beautiful country and it was certainly worth the drive. We saw several RV parks just south of San Blas. We drove into El Chaco RV Park and it would be fine to camp in a Class A. There are only about 5 back-in sites with cement pads and possibly electricity. We also attempted to go into one called Zona but the road was overgrown and bumpy, even for the CRV, so no way in the RV.
After the agricultural areas the road runs right along the ocean with houses, restaurants, etc built between it and the beach.
Thick jungle
Lots of places for sale
