March 14- Lagos De Moreno

The trip to Guadalajara was very scenic and the roads were great.

We had a bit of an experience today courtesy of my poor navigation skills.  Instead of going around Guadalajara we went through it.   Amazingly we made it unscathed, thanks to Cam's fine driving and Mexican's willingness to smile, say what the hell and get over.  We took the lateral most of the way except for a short sprint where we made a break for the main drag but a nice motorcycle cop pulled alongside of us and motioned us back into the lateral and pulled us over.  He didn't have much english and we poquito (a little) Spanish.  I explained that we missed the periferico and really didn't want to be here either.  After explaining to him that we did not want to go to a Guadalajara police station to pay our $400 peso ticket because that might cause even more problems, he decided to charge us $500 pesos and let us go.   (mordida??? or was it $400 peso for the ticket and $100 peso for his trouble)  Anyway he said the RV was muy bueno  and to make sure we stayed on the lateral and straight going out of Guadalajara.   I think $40 Canadian was a small price to pay for getting out unscathed and after all we were in the wrong.

The landscape changed after Guadalajara to a flatter plain.

No wifi.  We stopped at Pemex #3989 outside of Lagos De Moreno for the night.  The manager was very nice and told us to move right up by the store for security.

Pemex 3989 & Federales

The Federales pulled in to gas up just as Kirky and I were going for a walk and photo op.  Standard procedure is for about 4 of them to spread out in the lot with machine guns.  Talk about security.  Kirk and I headed back for the RV immediately.

Parked for the night

424 Km.
