The New Camera - December 1st

We decided we needed something better than an iPhone for taking pictures.  "Bridge" cameras were just as large as the fancy full-sized cameras; we decided it was better to get a small camera, on the theory that you would be more likely to take it along, and would have it when you needed it.  A zoom would be optimal for Nancy's birding, and stabilization is a good thing when shakey Me was trying to take a picture.  Wi-fi and blue-tooth would also be nice, as would be the ability to take 4K video.  So, before we left Texas, we picked up this:

Canon Powershot SX740

Which has a 40X Optical Zoom

Amazing what they can pack into a small point and shoot camera these days (110 x 64 x 40 mm (4.33 x 2.52 x 1.57))

There was an alert circulating today, advising of a crocodile on the beach during the day.  There are crocs in the laguna behind the beach, but usually they bask on the laguna shores during the day, and only come out to the ocean at night.  (we've seen the odd one at night) We haven't yet heard a first hand account.

There was also another fire up at our end of the park. Luckily a lady across from it spotted the fire immediately and someone else got it with a fire extinguisher before the trailer caught.   They were able to rerun the electricity to the trailer which is good since the owners are away for 2 weeks.

On a lighter note here are some shots from the new camera.

Ruby-throated Hummingbird

Violet-crowned Hummingbird

Blue Grosbeak female

Painted Bunting female

I call this next group - The Posers as they all posed in the same spot.

Well, you've probably seen enough bird photos.  All taken from our patio.  That zoom is a wonderful thing.
