Yesterday was uneventful other than a trip to Hinde y Jaime's for Grey Cup T-shirts.
Today I walked into La Peñita with a neighbour along the beach to go to market. This is a much shorter route as long as the tide is not high.
Fishermen coming into shore
Another kind of fisherman - egret
Mending nets
We had a brief talk with a fellow mending his nets. He was using the same kind of tool the fishermen on lake Winnipegosis used back when they had cotton nets. The nets above are nylon. Then we went to the Pescaderia a little further along the beach.
Fishermen were cleaning and filleting a bunch of different fish. We asked if we could take photos and they were happy to oblige. They said the small red fish (on right above) were good for filets but especially for soup.
Guy in blue filleting fish for me
I asked for a media kilo of the red fish filets. They weigh the whole fish and then filet it for you after.
Fileting a small ray. They only cut out a small piece
Sierra (dark fish) and Red Snapper
We visited another pescaderia at the market and they were cutting the red snapper across into steaks and then splitting the head as well (above).

No cleaning fish here since we are still cutting deer. 1 1/2 to go then we are done cutting and only have sausage making left to do. Turning cold tonight and it looks like we will be bouncing off -30 this week.
Wow. Are those frigate birds sitting on top the building? Do they ever get any scraps?
oh yes they are moochers
