El Paso, TX

After a restful night tucked amongst the running semi’s (Hey, Murray, wouldn’t it save fuel if they just shut things down while they slept?) we were on the road early.  Since we were in the desert, it was, once again raining.  This was good for traveling, cool, and no sun to face traveling east.

Yesterday, when we got down south around El Centro, Nancy spotted something flying; not a plane not a helicopter.  I couldn’t get a look at it while driving, and on we went.  Half way to Yuma, Nancy spotted it again, and figured it was a gyrocopter, only with a stubby wing and two rotors.  This time I got a quick look, but couldn’t figure out the profile.  Finally, as we were driving through Yuma, I got a good look at one taking off from the military base, yep, it was an Bell Boeing V22 Osprey!!  The US sure doesn’t scrimp on hardware, nor flying hours, that’s for sure.

We entered El Paso, TX, about 2 pm. trying to hit minimal traffic.  And a good thing too.  It was still 12 lanes wide and 4 layers deep, and at brisk enough pace to have Nancy twitching.
After a long day and a fitful sleep yesterday, we promised ourselves an early stop today.  We hove to at a rest stop just east of El Paso and threw anchor for the night.

486 Km. today
